Tropospheric NO2 Vertical columns and AOD from ground-based MAX-DOAS SkySpec-2D systems in San Pietro Capofiume (BO), Bologna, Mount Cimone (MO), Roma Tor Vergata
General Description
This dataset is composed by Tropospheric NO2 vertical columns and AOD retrieved from the MAX-DOAS measurements obtained by four SkySpec-2D instruments located at CNR-ISAC premises in San Pietro in Capofiume (therein SPC, BO), Bologna (BLQ), Mount Cimone (CMN, MO), Roma Tor Vergata (RTV). The columns are retrieved using the DEAP code (Castelli et al., 2025).
Version 1.0 release
This first release (v1.0) of the dataset includes only NO2 Tropospheric columns and AOD as a function of the time and viewing azimuth directions. Future release will contain other species (e.g. HCHO under the same DOI)
File Format and Structure
Data are provided in GEOMS HDF5 format. The Generic Earth Observation Metadata Standard (GEOMS) is the HDF5/netCDF format implemented into the ESA Validation Data Center (EVDC, https://evdc.esa.int). The dataset contains one file for each single day and species.
Spatial and temporal coverage
Domain: 3 locations in the Po Valley (SPC, BLQ, CMN) and one in the Rome area (RTV) Period: for SPC and RTV since October 2021, for BLQ and CMN from July-September 2024 Horizontal dimension: Data are acquired at different viewing azimuth directions

The SPC SkySpec-2D system has been acquired under the project "Sviluppo delle Infrastrutture e Programma Biennale degli Interventi del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche -- Potenziamento Infrastrutturale: progetti di ricerca strategici per l'ente. The RTV SkySpec-2D system was acquired under the project "Sviluppo delle Infrastrutture e Programma Biennale degli Interventi del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - Potenziamento Infrastrutturale: progetti di ricerca strategici per l'ente.Progetto 5 -- ASSE CENTRO". The BLQ and CMN SkySpec-2D were acquired in the frame of the Project IR0000038 Earth-Moon-Mars (EMM) project, led by INAF in partnership with ASI and CNR, funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 3.1: "Fund for the realisation of an integrated system of research and innovation infrastructures" - Action 3.1.1 funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.
